Silence at Dawn

This summer break I went back to where I grew up in Utah and took a nice long needed family vacation with my mom, dad, and sister around southern Utah, semi-close to where I went to University. I consider a 2 hour drive close.

My family and I are really big into Doctor Who, so we had to go back to Lone Rock Beach on Lake Powell and go exactly where the Lake Silencio scenes were filmed in the series 6 opening episode and the finale. My dad and I left our hotel at 4:30 in the morning so we could catch the sunrise. During the summer it's not so great looking in the middle of the day because of there being so many campers lined up on the water with their motor boats. I managed to squeeze through them and get this shot before the bigger swarm came in later during the day. I actually had to photoshop some of the tents and boats out in the distance. Normally don't do things like that, but they were really distracting in this particular shot. I took so many photos, but this is probably my favorite.

I still wonder what made Moffat think of filming in Utah out of all of time and space there is in Who, but dang it has definitely brought a lot of tourists because of it. There are so many people who don't understand the beauty of southern Utah if you haven't been there. It's funny because the behind the scenes for the America/Utah bits for Doctor Who are the best videos I've found online that really show and explain it well. And it was done by British actors and filmmakers who were experiencing it for their first time. XD
